One Month to go

With only one month to go until the 24hr treadmill run I am understandably getting pretty nervous about it. This is not helped by the fact that yesterday's 12hr run ended up being a 10hr. I had twinged something in my back at the weekend but it seemed to be ok when I did a test run. However once I was into my normal pace it started spasming causing me to lose my footing at points. I had to reduce the pace slightly and opted to cut the run a couple of hours short rather than aggrevate it further, I also had to take more breaks than originally planned. I got on the treadmill about 630am and was off about 10hrs later.
Once off I had a massage from Toby who reckons it was a posture problem, I have spent the last few years racing with a backpack so am not used to running these distances without one. Maybe I will have to do the 24hr run with a backpack on!
My back feels a lot better today and my legs feel fine. My toes are pretty tender and swollen though. A couple of hours after I finished they had swollen up so my I couldn't put any pressure on my right foot, hopping was out of the question too as my left foot was pretty sore too. I think this was down to a number of reasons (apart from the obvious running 10hrs). It had only been 10 days since I did the 8hr run so they were probably still recovering from that and I was not wearing compression socks, I was using my injini toe socks which may have aggrevated the swelling if they got too tight. Luckily I was at a friends house and they gave me some icy water to soak my feet, I had already had an icy shower but obviously my toes needed some extra attention.
It seemed to do the trick as my feet are much better now, still tender but thats to be expected.
So it didn't go to plan but learnt a lot to improve on for April, better for things to go wrong now than then anyway!
