Mimi Anderson (www.marvellousmimi.com) set out at 6am yesterday morning from Birmingham along with 90 other runners with the aim of running the 145 miles along the grand union canal (www.gucr.co.uk) I ran from home to the last cp then ran the last section with her, she was also accompanied by Steve Moore for several hours. Mimi was suffering a bit of course, she had covered 133miles by the time I saw her so was bound to be a bit sore but was still doing amazingly and trucking on at a decent pace
She had gone into the race aiming to break the ladies record which she did by over 3hrs.
1st female, 3rd overall and a new Female record of 28hrs 12mins. Fantastic achievement Mimi. Well done !!!!!!!
Also congrats to Pat Robbins, 1st place in a time of 26hrs 24mins - equal to the course record he had set previously.
Well done to everyone who finished and to those still going, the race cut off is 3am monday morning and commiserations to those who had to pull out for various reasons. Tough race, one I will eventually do - it's been on the list for a while

I echo that sentiment, congratulations to all finishers and commiserations to those were unsuccessful. I ran the more modest distance of 32 miles last weekend in the Dartmoor Discovery, and met up with an old friend Alan Rumbles. He too completed the GUCR but had a pot on his hoof having sustained a stress fracture. You ultra-distance runners are rock-hard. Respect!
